In the Mood for Love: Sushi Bar and Bistro, located 100 meter down Soi Sukhumvit 36, is a trendy restaurant in modern Japanese style opened in year 2010. It offers varieties of Japanese food and drinks ranging from the traditional tempura to fusion food like the signature dish "Sweet 16" as well as traditional Japanese alcohol like Sake and Umeshu to trendy cocktail like Mojito. In the Mood for Love can be reached conveniently via BTS (Thonglor Station). Walking into the restaurant, a cocktail bar with a few seats will be seen and on the right there is a sushi bar which can accommodate around 10 people. In the Mood for Love is decorated in contemporary Chinese style in soft lighting to resemble the feeling of Shanghai as in the name "In the Mood for Love", a famous film by Wong Kar-Wai. One thing to notice is that the restaurant can always to packed, hence, booking is recommended.
Before the meal had taken off, I ordered a glass of Mojito. Disappointment I must say, presentation was not bad at all but it tasted rather light and not attractive (3/10).

The first dish to arrive was Caterpillar. This was simply a roll of shrimp tempura and eel wrapped with avocado. During the meal, I personally enjoy this dish the most. It was rather sweet but delightful (6/10).
Caterpillar |
Next was Sweet 16. This is the signature dish of In the Mood for Love. It was mainly filled with eel and avocado and topped with strawberry. It tasted a little spicy from pepper powder. I didn't find it well matched though (4/10).
Sweet 16 |
This was followed by C 4. C 4 had eel and mozzarella filling topped with spicy salmon and nitsume sauce. It was crisp, however, it was too sweet. Another scent of aroma would make this dish much better, otherwise enjoyable (4/10).
C 4 |
Guilty but Happy was a combination of Western style and Japanese style. It was stuffed with shrimp tempura and a lot of cream cheese with wasabi mayo and nitsume sauce. On the outer layer, it was crisp with fried batter. But it was too cheesy cheesy (4/10).

Hole in the Wall was the next to try. This scallop base maki was combined with jalapeno, avocado and mentaiko sauce. I found the scallop not fresh and the taste was a failure (2/10).
Hole in the Wall |
Very Salmon was just salmon and avocado filling wrapped with salmon again. This ordinary dish was just like the other maki at In the Mood for Love, which contained avocado and too soft rice (5/10).
Very Salmon |
Last of fusion maki was 175 Degree. This surely was a creative one, having nori wrapping spicy tuna, avocado, and cream cheese in tempura style. Nevertheless, the taste had no distinguishable point but was utterly spoiled by cream cheese (3/10).
175 Degree |
Coming to traditional dish such as Salmon Steak and Mixed Tempura. Salmon Steak was a little sweet and not crisp on the skin but tender and cooked just right (5/10). On the other hand, Mixed Tempura was rather soft but compromised by good quality of ingredients (4/10).

In the Mood for Love do not offer many choices of dessert. Green Tea Mouse was picked for the meal. It was not touchy at all. Too sweet indeed, lack of green tea scent it was (2/10).

In the Mood for Love: Sushi Bar and Bistro @ Sukhumvit 36, Bangkok is definitely a very good place to hang out: a trendy and chic restaurant and bar style. Food is certainly not so impressive but eatable: look fancy with rather good presentation but taste does not follow. The service is also no special. Having taken into account of pricing, this is surely not a cheap place for a meal in Bangkok. Should anyone be "In the Mood for Love" with this place? Compromise between feeling and taste should be noted.
