Flood is now all over the place, let us give some sincere sorry to those who are encountering such natural disaster right now. Wish everyone stays dry and "May God Save You All".

Let us now bring you back to our usual routine of food review. This time is another splendid choice of street food. Sathu Pier Stewed Beef - เนื้อตุ๋นท่าน้ำสาธุฯ @ Sathupradit Road is another long established noodle with beef specialist. It is located pretty close to Sathupradit Pier. The big blue sign can be easily spotted. The place is not so large, probably around 50 people can fit in. There are choices of noodle with beef to be chosen from: beef ball, tendon ball, stewed beef, and beef organs. There is also hot pot available for those who wish to enjoy with good friends and family.

Assorted Beef with Soup - เกาเหลาน้ำ is a choice of those who prefer to have with rice. Ok some of you may expect those kind of thick beef broth. Soup here may not be as thick as in other places but it does taste as rich (8/10).

Let now look at non soup base stewed beef. We did try Narrow Rice Noodle with Beef and Beef Ball - เส้นเล็กชิ้นสด and Assorted Beef without Soup - เกาเหลาแห้ง. Both are great and come in rather big portion. Beef ball and tendon ball are soft but maintain elastic texture (really like these). Stewed beef, especially tendon part, is supremely savoury and delicious. Ok we love the one without soup more ^^ (9/10).

This place is definitely a must try if you happen to be around this area. Enjoy your beef.

Kluay Thod Krata Thong (Golden-Pan Fried Banana) @ Soi Hua Hin 68, Phrachuab Khiri Khan

Cuisine: Thai (Dessert)

When mentioning fried banana, at first you may think about those famous fried banana being sold to you around Yommarat area when you get stuck with red light while driving. Here is another great fried banana, it is located in Phrachuab Khiri Khan Province within Soi Hua Hin 68. It is called Kluay Thod Krata Thong, meaning golden-pan fried banana. Many of you may know that it was at Soi Hua Hin 51 (selling in a green mini van) but have recently moved to this new place.

What great about this banana is that it is so crisp, yet the soft touch of inside banana is really wonderful. Batter that contains coconut milk as an ingredient gives really nice taste. The selection of banana is also taken with care such that each banana is not over ripe nor unripe. Thickness is also just right giving delightful texture and touch. The more you eat, the more you want. Once start eating this fried banana, it is hard to stop. Some people did even try to buy the recipe of this fried banana for over a million Thai baht but the owner did refuse and mentioned that it is not for sale.

Ok let me give it 7/10 for the taste. As it is just fried banana and I cannot find a way to give it more than that: creativity, technique, and so. If I was to score it for fried banana only, it would have been 9 or 10/10 seriously.

PS. The queue of this place can be really long, especially during public holiday. Bear in mind that you will need to take a queueing ticket in order to buy. Additionally, when there are too many people waiting, you may be limit to buy just THB100 max. Anyway, enjoy your banana. ^^

Taking a short break at Hua Hin, indeed everyone always think "what am I gonna have for lunch/dinner?" or "should I go for seafood tonight?". But there is one place almost everyone will think of when cannot decide what to eat. It is surely "Jekpea Coffee Shop". This place is situated at a corner of the junction of Dechanuchit Road and Naeb Kehardt Road. You will notice the old looking house made out of wood right away. It is always pack with tourists (mostly from Bangkok) during weekends and public holidays. No reservation for this kind of place of course, however, you can grab seats in short time. People do come in and go rather fast.

I guess that this place started out as a coffee shop from its name and then develop through time to be a place that offers variety of food ranging from street food to seafood. Pricing of food here is also in line with other places and perhaps a little cheaper than some street food. Menu for day time is in the form of one person dish but dinner menu is mostly to share type. During breakfast time, there will be stalls of various type of food to be chosen from at the front of Jekpea. Everything here is rather good but not great. Nice for a quick meal.

This time we came here for breakfast and decided to have Assorted Pork in Soup - ต้มเลือดหมู. For those who do not know what this is, it contains minced pork ball, clotted pork blood, and assorted organ of pork such as stomach and liver. Those who cannot take organs just do not order this. However, I must say that this is actually a nice dish, especially the soft clotted blood. Even organs are nice, cannot detect any bad smell of organ. Supple and delightful soup I must say (7/10).

For beverage, we went for typical Thai drink: Iced Thai Milk Tea and Hot Coffee. Iced Thai Milk Tea was rather good and not too sweet but maintained some sweetness to give unique taste of milk tea (6/10). Hot Coffee came with a cup of hot Chinese tea. It was black coffee. Nothing special for this but good for morning wake up (5/10).

Somsak: Baked Vermicelli with Crab & Prawn @ Charoen Rat Road, Bangkok

Cuisine: Chinese
Visited: 1 October 2011
Price: THB260 per person (what I paid for)
Food: 8/10
Atmosphere: n.m. (street food)

Baked Prawn or Crab with Vermicelli may be something that sounds simple and can be found anywhere. But a great one is surely difficult to find. Somsak @ Charoen Rat Road has been selling deliciously taste and looking Baked Prawn and Crab with Vermicelli for over 20 years. The street food shop is located just by the entrance to Soi Charoen Rat 1. It can be easily spotted with bright stall front of Somsak along with tables that are always packed with customers. Indeed, something nice always comes with compensation, either price or something else. In this case, price is not so painful but queueing can be terribly awful. Somsak does not take reservation of table but you may call to order in advance so you do not have to wait for your food long after being seated. Those who do not want to wait can also order take away or delivery: Somsak uses nearby motorcycle taxi as a mean of delivery. Hence, it does not matter where you are in Bangkok, your food can be delivered as long as you are willing to pay a little extra for the delivery.

It also enjoyable to watch such efficient process of cooking of Somsak. There will be 1 person chopping crabs into pieces and another guy to lay them in pots. From then Mr. Somsak will season and prepare each dish himself before heat them over a stove.

First to come may not be a signature dish but as well great. It was Baked Mussels. Each mussel may not be a big size one but fresh. It was tasty and savoury with hint herbs, including holy basil. This one is good as a starter (7/10).

The famous Baked Crab or Prawn with Vermicelli was just as good as the rumour has said. Vermicelli was soft but presented chewiness at the same time. Taste just right, neither too salty nor too sweet. Both crab and prawn were fresh. Crab could be easily eaten as the shell had been smashed. Aroma of herbs were all around. This is a really great simple dish (9/10).
