This time we did give Oknomiyaki Ichi, which is again located in the heart of Thonglor. Just by its name, you may probably can guess what it is serving and yes, it is okonomiyaki or Japanese style pizza (I guess). There is a pan for each table to cook your own okonomiyaki. However, if you are not so sure of your own skill, you may ask for the cooked one. What I really felt about this place was the inner atmosphere. Though, the decoration is nothing spectacular and really simple in fact, I could sense the Japanese touch and spirit somehow (perhaps there are somewhat 90% Japanese guests here >.<")
Anyway, to come here is pretty easy: BTS Thonglor station, otherwise drive into Thonglor and Okonomiyaki Ichi is just on the 1st floor of Premier Thonglor which is in Soi Sukhumvit 53 (between Thonglor 9 and 11) and pretty close to Audrey Cafe. There are some parking slots at the building, else there is a large parking space adjacent to the building.
We had Omochi Agedashi (4/10) and Tofu Salad (5/10) to start off. Omochi Agedashi was just similar to agedashi tofu but deep-fried till crisp. Ok, not bad but not great. Tofu Salad was well....just salad in sesame dressing that served with melting soft tofu. More enjoyable.
The first of our mains was Kacchin (4/10). This one is Okonomiyaki with cheese in fact. Really cheesy I have to say, delightful. You may at this point add nori seaweed or katsuobushi (dried skipjack tuna) to give another dimension of taste. One thing I notice was that the size was really big, at least for me, but all I could feel mostly in my mouth was dough, not meats T_T. This one would be much better with more meat.
Modanyaki Mix (3/10) was next. This one is again okonomiyaki base with additional of soba. It was big too. Fun to eat but not delicious from our perspective. Too much carbohydrate again (T.T). The taste of soda was somewhat weird actually. Admittedly, I could not even sense what in my mouth.
Then we had Omusoba (3/10). This was a bit better choice than Modanyaki Mix. Instead of having rice wrapped with fry egg like Omurice, this was soba wrapped with egg. First time for us anyway, lol. This dish was as well fascinating for us (first time, I repeat, my first time) but overall taste was not up to standard surely. Look like it is a good fusion dish but a more savoury one is needed.
Coming to dessert, we managed to put together 2 choices among us: Nameraka Purin (4/10) and Dessert 3Shu Moriawase (4/10). They are basically caramel pudding and 3 kinds of mix dessert respectively. The pudding was not overly sweet and smooth. It was in fact better in term of taste than main courses for me. Dessert 3Shu Moriawase came with chocolate panna cotta, fruit salad, and ice-cream (green tea for our choice). Enjoyable but just 1 weird point that ice-cream was served on orange that mixed and gave some strange taste.
Anyway, this is a place for fun with family and friends. If you expect some good taste of Japanese, then forget about Okonomiyaki Ichi and go somewhere else.
